It is advised to check your vehicles Master Switch is operating correctly. They are known to hold power to the motor when the Auto-Up function is used. This can eventually cause the motor to burn out prematurely.
One way to confirm your switch is operating correctly is to be in a quiet spot and close your window using the Auto-Up function. Within 1 to 2 seconds you should hear a small tic noise come from the door area. This is the switch cutting off power to the motor. The longer it takes to switch off, the harder the motor's fuse has to work. This is what causes the motor to eventually burn out.
Another common known cause of failure is water damage.
Master switches are available from Subaru for around $250.
O.E. motors from Subaru retail for over $400
