Do I Need a New Power Window Motor?
Before you pull out your wallet, do this quick test. A dead window isn't always a dead motor ā it could be a faulty switch, a blown fuse, or a wiring issue. Here's how to find out in under 10 minutes.
If nothing happens when you press the window switch, the motor might be at fault ā but so might the switch, fuse, or wiring. This test isolates the motor so you know exactly what to replace.
Before you start: Check that the associated fuse is intact and the power window child lock is switched off. These are the two most common causes of a completely dead window.
Remove the inner door trim panel to access the motor and wiring. Keep all screws and clips organised.
Locate and unplug the power window motor from the vehicle's wiring harness.
Apply 12V power directly to the motor's power leads using a spare battery or power supply. Swap the polarity to test both up and down directions.(on multi wire plugs, the two thickest are usually the power leads)

ā Window moves normally
The motor is fine ā your switch is likely at fault. Check the switch wiring and contacts before replacing anything. A faulty switch is a much cheaper fix.
ā Window doesn't move

š Find my motor āThis test does not apply to all motors. Power window motors that have an integrated module or use a multi-pin harness plug (more than 2 power pins) cannot be reliably tested this way. If you're unsure, contact us before proceeding.
