DIY Install Guide

Subaru Impreza & Forester Window Motor Replacement

The easy way to swap the power window motor on a Subaru Impreza or Forester — no regulator re-alignment needed after installation.

🚗 Impreza & Forester ✅ No Re-Alignment 🔧 DIY Friendly ⏱️ ~45 mins
💡

This method keeps the regulator bolts in place so no re-alignment is required after fitting the new motor. Read all instructions before you start.

⚠️

Read all instructions first. Once the motor is loose, the glass can drop freely. Have a plan to support the glass before you begin.

🔧 Tools Required

What You'll Need

🔩 10mm Socket & Driver or Spanner
🔩 Phillips #2 Screwdriver
🔩 Right Angle Phillips #3 Screwdriver
🔩 Trim tool or flat blade screwdriver covered with tape

📋 Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Remove the door trim using the Phillips #2 screwdriver and trim tool. If you're unable to remove the door trim, stop here and get assistance before continuing.

2

With the window fully up and door trim removed:

• Unplug the connectors circled in YELLOW.
• Remove the 3 screws circled in PINK holding the speaker.
• Remove the speaker and place it somewhere safe for re-installation.

3

Support the glass. Once the motor is removed, the glass can drop freely. Have a friend hold it, or jam a piece of folded cardboard between the glass and the top of the door frame.

⚠️

Be careful. Once the motor is loose, the glass can drop freely and cause injury or damage.

4

Remove the 3 motor bolts using the right angle Phillips #3 screwdriver through the speaker hole. You will be pointing the screwdriver towards yourself.

5

The motor is sandwiched between the regulator and the door. Using the 10mm socket or spanner, loosen the bolts circled in RED and GREEN a few turns — do not remove them completely.

You should now be able to slip the motor out. If not, loosen the GREEN bolts a little further until it can be removed.

⚠️

Do NOT completely remove the bolts circled in RED and GREEN. Loosening only is what keeps re-alignment unnecessary.

6

Installation is the reversal of this process. Fit the new motor, tighten all bolts, reconnect the plug, refit the speaker, and reinstall the door trim.
